Released By Bangladesh Post During INDIPEX-2011

Following Jinnah's declaration of 16 August,1946 as the Direct Action Day ,A massive massacres take place at Noakhali and Tippera district(Now in Bangladesh) on 10th October 1946.
The violence unleashed was described as "the organized fury of the Muslim mob".The Muslim League claimed that only 500 Hindus were killed in the mayhem, but the survivors opined that more than 50,000 Hindus were killed. Some sources also made some extreme claim that the Hindu population in Noakhali was nearly annihilated.
After the riots were stopped, Mahatma Gandhi was infuriated and visited the most riot prone areas of Noakhali.During this visit Mahatama Gandhi put all his efforts to prevent the massacres,and make peace among  Hindus and Muslims.
